The true workhorse of the all-steel electrodes. It is ideal for welding a variety of steels in all positions
• Superior Arc Characteristics – The Chem-A-Tized² coating produces a spray type arc with a smooth bead, little to no spatter and a self-releasing slag
• High Strength – Produces weld deposits that are crack-free and high in strength and elongation
• Multi-Purpose – Can be used to join any combination of all weldable grades of steels - cast steel, stainless, low alloy, mild, manganese, tool or spring steel
• Can be used on AC or DC
• Withstands stress and vibration
• Easy restrike
Remove defective metal by grinding or gouging with Arc-Prep #161 electrode. Bevel heavy sections before welding. Use AC or DCEP (DC+) current. Use a contact or a minimum arc length with a weave or stringer bead technique. Preheat should be used when the base metal requires it. For vertical-up welds reduce amperage slightly and use a modified weave technique. Chip the slag between multipass welds. Allow to cool slowly.
• Tensile Strength: – As deposited: 89,000 PSI/613 Mpa – Work Hardened: 122,000 PSI/841 Mpa
• Hardness: – As Deposited: 95 Rb – Work Hardened: 37 Rc
• Elongation: 42%
• Machinability: Excellent
• Current: DCEP (DC+) or AC
